FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
We will gather outside the WSRE Amos Studio at Pensacola State College at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 22, 2022, for a peaceful protest of Gaetz, Trump Jr., and the war on women the GOP started by stripping women and girls of their basic human rights.
Our protest comes less than a week after Gaetz’ controversial appearance at a Niceville High School military academy event, in which underage teens were forced to be with the embattled Congressman in order to receive recommendations to the military academy.
The investigation into Gaetz’ alleged sex trafficking and rape, among other crimes, remains ongoing, and no grown man under active criminal investigation for soliciting underage boys and girls for sex should be allowed in or near a K-12 school.
We also call on the Okaloosa County Superintendent, Marcus Chambers, and members of the school board to apologize to the students, their families, and our communities for entertaining such a person at a school function, regardless of the authority or power they wield.
Ephebophiles like Matt Gaetz use schools to find victims and given Okaloosa County’s sordid history with the rape and exploitation of students by members of the district and the Republican Party, we stand united in our opposition of allowing predators on school grounds.
Instructions for attendees:
Date/Time: Begin arriving at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 22, 2022
Location: WSRE Amos Studio at Pensacola State College, 1000 College Blvd, Pensacola, FL 32504
We ask that all demonstrators remain peaceful, follow all lawful orders given, listen to group leaders, remain in areas designated as public spaces, do not obstruct roads or driveways, and maintain the spirit of civil disobedience that has revolutionized civil rights for decades.
While all community members are welcome to join, given recent mismanagement of the last Gaetz protest by WAMG and members of their organization who instigated potentially dangerous situations, we respectfully ask that any supporters who feel they cannot respect the organizers’ directions and follow rules that keep all of us safe please stay home. You can tweet, post, share, or find another way to contribute.
Please bring bottled water for the heat and an umbrella in case of rain. We will have water onsite for those who need it.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS: Bans Off Our Bodies is a national abortion rights campaign. It is led by abortion rights supporters in response to unrelenting political attacks on our basic right to control our own bodies, our lives, and our futures. Bans Off Our Bodies protests send a loud, clear message: Everyone deserves the right to get abortion care when they need it — in their own communities.
Together Against Gaetz (#TAG222) is a movement of allies working together to vote out Matt Gaetz and raise awareness about women's reproductive rights and men who traffic and sexually exploit women and girls.
